Songwriting

The Songwriter

Aaron writes every song he records – and his songs have found homes with one of Australia’s biggest artists and in Hollywood films.

Don't Let It End

Recorded by John Farnham · Romeo’s Heart

The song that started it all. Aaron dropped off a demo at John Farnham’s label office in 1996 – six weeks later, Farnham called him personally to say he wanted to record it. “Don’t Let It End” became part of Farnham’s multi-platinum album Romeo’s Heart.

The First Time I Saw You

Featured in the film Slightly Single in L.A.

Recorded by Aaron Hendra and featuring E.G. Daily on vocals, this song appears in the romantic comedy Slightly Single in L.A. (2013), starring Lacey Chabert, Kip Pardue and Jenna Dewan.

Bad Machine

Featured in the film Officer Down

Written and performed by Aaron, “Bad Machine” brings its gritty edge to the crime thriller Officer Down (2013), starring Stephen Dorff, James Woods and David Boreanaz.

The Mission

One Man's War

A song for Sam Childers – the Machine Gun Preacher – and the children he rescued.

In 2010, Sam Childers came to Give Studios to meet Aaron. Through his organization, Angels of East Africa, Sam shelters children rescued from violence in South Sudan and Northern Uganda. His story stayed with Aaron long after he left – that night, Aaron woke up dreaming the words to “One Man’s War.” At Sam’s request, Aaron wrote it as the end title song for the 2011 film Machine Gun Preacher.

Months later, Aaron and his band travelled to Nimule, South Sudan, and recorded the children of Sam’s Children’s Village singing the song’s final chorus: “We’re going home.”

The song was named a finalist in the 2011 USA Songwriting Competition, and Aaron performed it alongside Sam on The 700 Club.

The Next Chapter

Light Up Tomorrow

On that first trip, Aaron watched the children cheer as an old gasoline generator flickered the church lights on at dusk – the only power in the village. The idea for Light Up Tomorrow was born that night.

Aaron returned in 2013 with seven bags of gear and a donated Evolucia LED light panel, pushing through flooded roads to reach the South Sudan border just before it closed. That evening, the children gathered in the village’s mud-brick church to watch the new light switch on for the first time. The goal: clean, off-grid solar power for the orphanages and schools Sam’s organization has built across East Africa.
